Our History
The foundation of the casino was formalized on the 31st of October 1844, by Governor General Narciso Claveria Y Zaldua. It was established as a social, recreational and convention center for the Spanish community in the Philippines. However, it was not long after when it opened its doors to its local comrades thereby fostering closer Spanish-Filipino ties.
Located near the corner of Taft Avenue and T.M. Kalaw, the Casino is just a stone’s throw away from Manila’s seat of governance, the City Hall, and the city’s main shopping and leisure districts, strategically placing it in the hub of Manila life. Remarkably though, it has been able to stay relatively out of the public limelight thereby affording its members and guests added privacy and security.
The Casino’s rich historical heritage is further complemented by its next door neighbor, the Instituto de Cervantes, an educational center for Spanish culture and language. Despite its ultra-modern structure and facilities, the Instituto stands harmoniously well with the Casino’s period architecture, both of which are joined together by an open-air multi-purpose area.
The perfect combination of business, recreation and education make these Spanish institutions genuine treasures in the heart of Manila.
